The Palo Duro River Authority and Lake Palo Duro began with the completion of the Lake Palo Duro Dam in March 1991. Lake Palo Duro is located 10 miles North of Spearman. It consists of 8,983.50 acres. Lake Palo Duro's surface area is 2,413 acres. The depth at this time is 20 to 30 feet. In 2017, the Palo Duro River Authority changed to the Palo Duro Water District. The Palo Duro Water District is supported by Moore County, Hansford County, and the City of Stinnett.

Board Meetings are held every month on the second Tuesday at 2:00pm at the Palo Duro Lake Office Board Room.
